Seven Sustainable Swimwear Brands to Have on Your Radar This Summer

It’s official—summer is finally here. With the blazing sun inviting us to beach days and pool parties, the hunt for the perfect swimsuit is on. Often, this can lead to endless scrolling, trying to find that ideal bikini amidst a sea of options and brands. This year we’re making it simple: the cool girls are shopping sustainably—and definitely not at Shein. To keep you stylish and eco-conscious, I’ve curated a list of standout swimwear brands to streamline your search. As you sip your piña colada on the beach, you can be at ease knowing you are swimming sustainably.

With Jéan

Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski have given their stamp of approval to this it-girl brand. Founded in 2017 by best friends Sami Lorking-Tanner and Evangeline Titilas, With Jéan is the go-to for high-quality, unique pieces—from dainty dresses to some of the best swimwear on the market. With Jéan prides itself on sustainability, standing against overconsumption and mass production. Every item is produced ethically and shipped in biodegradable packaging. The 2024 swimwear drop is one of my favorite With Jéan collections yet. The Blake Swim Shorts in Gingham will be making their way into my shopping cart.

Vitamin A

While soaking up some vitamin D this summer, wear Vitamin A. Founder Amahlia Stevens created Vitamin A to introduce a swimwear brand that makes a difference. Vitamin A partners with environmental organizations, donating a portion of their profits to ocean protection efforts. The brand implements sustainability in every step of the design and distribution process. Each product is made of eco-conscious textiles like organic cotton, linen, recycled cotton, and nylon. Produced locally in California, their factories minimize waste and energy use. Even their packaging is 100% recyclable and compostable. With timeless styles, these swimsuits are an investment that will be a staple for years to come.

Fair Harbor

Fair Harbor beachwear was created from a passion for preserving the ocean and waterways for future generations. Since launching in 2014, sustainability has been at the core of the brand. Their swimwear is made from repurposed plastic waste collected from waterways. Having kept over 35 million water bottles out of our oceans, Fair Harbor continues to use sustainable materials with the lowest environmental impact. The brand offers a few styles for women and a wide variety of trunks for men, so whether you're shopping for yourself or your boyfriend, there's something for everyone.

The ultimate swimwear brand for your European summer, Dippin’ Daisy’s not only has the cutest Aperol spritz-adorned bikini, but it’s also sustainable and ethically produced. They ensure their production process is low-carbon and environmentally friendly. Launching new collections every three weeks, they repurpose their inventory and give it new life. Their latest collection, Italian Market, is not a want, but a need.

Koraru

Oana Romaneiro created Koraru out of her love for the ocean and belief that fashion shouldn’t harm the planet. Koraru has earned the esteemed Butterfly Mark, recognizing it as a changemaker in the luxury fashion industry. The Butterfly Mark ensures the brand meets the highest standards for sustainability, positively impacting both people and the planet. Their swimwear is made with low-impact and upcycled fabrics, including ECONYL®, a regenerated yarn from nylon waste. In 2021, Koraru partnered with The Coral Reef Alliance, donating five dollars from every swimsuit purchased to coral reef protection. Koraru offers minimalist styles for women of all ages.

We all know and love reformation, but their swimwear this season is just too good not to include on this list. Coining the slogan, “Being naked is the #1 most sustainable option. We’re #2,” Reformation is committed to sustainability, 100% circularity, and transparency. Using recycled cotton and Tencel™ in most of their garments, Reformation strives for low use of energy, water, and carbon emissions.
